During volleyball season this past fall, Columbus Academy junior Kayla Podgurski organized a successful Dig Pink® fundraiser at a home contest against Whitehall. With a matching gift from Sports Imports, Kayla's event raised over $3,000 to help beat cancer. And for her efforts, the Side-Out Foundation and American Volleyball Coaches Association recently announced Kayla as one of three U.S. high-schoolers to win the 2017 National Dig Pink® Award, which comes with a scholarship as part of Side-Out's Ambassador Program.
According to the AVCA press release: "These national honor winners received the highest scores on essays submitted to the Side-Out/AVCA review board outlining their role in staging Dig Pink® events, addressing why they felt connected to the cause and elaborating on other ways each had given back to the community throughout the year."
And in case you missed it, Kayla was featured in a television commercial for Sports Imports that aired nationally throughout the past two collegiate volleyball seasons. She is the daughter of Dr. Walt and Linda Podgurski of Pickerington.
