Place and purpose converge on Columbus Academy’s 231-acre campus. Light-filled spaces. Omnipresent technology. Learning labs and arts studios at every turn. Outdoor classrooms, a makerspace, fields of play and quiet wooded trails. Mindfully designed classrooms, libraries and gathering areas. Each is the setting for dynamic, hands-on opportunities and joyful, engaging experiences for our students and teachers.

Columbus Academy’s Strategic Vision values common space, reflective thought, creativity, artistry, athletic performance, the natural environment, a global outlook and college preparation. Our campus and facilities give life to that vision. New wings with additional academic classrooms for the Upper and Middle Schools, completed in 2017, add inviting, vibrant spaces. Every renovation is an innovation; simple yet significant touches support the full range of learning styles for all of our students at every one of their developmental stages. Academy's campus is like none other in the region. Its design supports spontaneous learning, community building and a healthy lifestyle.

CREATING COMMUNITY AND OPPORTUNITY

Dedicated hallways, common areas and classroom clusters create smaller communities among student peers. Intentional gathering and thinking spaces set the stage for spontaneous idea exchanges and a quiet work environment.

SIMPLE, YET SIGNIFICANT, TOUCHES

Reading capsule “egg chairs” in the Middle School Library help block distractions so that students engrossed in books are undisturbed by groups in collaboration.

PHYSICAL ENGAGEMENT TO SUPPORT OUR CURRICULUM

Hands-on learning from experienced faculty is a vital part of each student’s Academy experience.

TECHNOLOGY KNITS TOGETHER LEARNING EXPERIENCES

Six computer labs, campus-wide wireless internet access, pop-up interactive stations and a tech help desk to encourage intellectual curiosity and creative student initiatives.

COLLEGIATE-QUALITY MUSIC RESOURCES

In 2017, we updated our band and orchestra rooms with better acoustics, humidity control for instruments, and six new conservatory-quality sound-proof practice studios.

VIBRANT ARTS PROGRAM

A strong and vibrant arts program continues to set Academy apart. Diverse genres make up our music curriculum, along with a centralized performing arts complex which includes our newly-renovated Schoedinger Theatre, backstage dressing rooms, and dedicated storage areas.

SHOWCASING ART

Morris Hall is a showcase for fine arts creativity and innovation on campus: exposed steel structure in the art gallery exhibit space, five light-filled classrooms, a fully-equipped photography room and a ceramics studio that houses a professional-level kiln.

MAKERSPACE LAB

The Makerspace lab is outfitted with the materials and tools to spark imagination and creativity, including state-of-the-art technology in 3D printers, robotics kits, coding iPads and power tools.

IMAGINATION AT WORK

Academy’s robotics club practice room engages students’ imaginations while developing interests and skills that will last a lifetime.

CRANE OUTDOOR LEARNING CENTER

Our outdoor spaces are important to spark the energy of the Columbus Academy community. The modern, lodge-like Crane Outdoor Learning Center is equipped with an interactive Smart Board, Apple TV and running water as well as a large patio and fire ring.

NATURAL LABORATORY

Botany practice in The Susan Peck ’14 Greenhouse is immersion in the importance of environmental sustainability.

SPONTANEOUS PLAY

The Columbus Academy campus is open, airy, and joy-filled, where learning and play are nurtured by four developmentally designed playgrounds, including a nature-based playground with direct access from our Explorers Program classrooms.

PROMOTING FITNESS AND ATHLETICISM

In 2020, we opened our new fieldhouse and wellness center to support Academy’s well-appointed athletics and fitness facilities. Our indoor athletic facilities also include two full-size gymnasiums and a natatorium, all of which are used by our physical education classes and athletic programs.

ACADEMY ATHLETICS

Turf football, soccer, field hockey and lacrosse fields host team play along with our indoor, six-lane swimming pool, two baseball diamonds, an all-weather eight-lane track, eight outdoor tennis courts, an on-campus cross-country course and a wrestling/multipurpose room.
