Director of Athletics Jason Singleton recently announced that Adam McHugh is the new varsity head coach for Columbus Academy’s ice hockey program, which had been guided by Corey Taber since being founded as a JV squad in 2017.

Adam, a resident of Lewis Center, is entering his 10th season of coaching ice hockey. He led the Olentangy Orange High School squad as a captain for three years and played one season at Ohio University before transferring to Otterbein University, where he helped to found an ice hockey club program. Most recently, he served as the director of former NHL goaltender Mitch Korn’s Defensive Camp and as the coach and director of the EDP Spiders’ 10-and-under team in the Columbus Youth Development Association. Adam has previously coached at Miami University's summer camps, as a varsity assistant at St. Charles and as the head JV coach at Olentangy Orange, and he has also worked with the USA and Canadian women’s Olympic teams and several NHL players in preseason camps. Last winter, Adam was the youth hockey director for the Indy Fuel 317HL.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to work with all the great students, families and staff at Columbus Academy,” he stated. “Our goal is to grow the sport of hockey within the Lower School, Middle School and Upper School. We will provide anyone interested in hockey at Academy opportunities to get involved. The season is right around the corner, our young men and women on the varsity team are excited to get to work. We hope to see you at a game this season!”

Adam has brought in Dar Faroughi as an assistant coach, and he has retained assistant coach Joey Nahay on his staff as well. Official practices for the team will begin this upcoming Monday with the first preseason game scheduled for November 7 and the regular-season opener on November 19.
