Emma Kurth, Ph.D., joined the Columbus Academy faculty as a middle school science teacher in September 2020 and will be teaching science in the upper school at the start of the 2021-22 school year. Prior to coming to Academy, Emma was a graduate assistant teacher at The Ohio State University School of Environment and Natural Resources where she earned her Ph.D. in the program with a specialization in soil science. She also previously served as an adjunct instructor in environmental science, safety and health at Columbus State Community College, tutored Ohio State student-athletes in science-related subjects, and worked as a graduate research associate for the Department of Food, Agriculture and Biological Engineering at Ohio State. Emma also gained experience as a research assistant and research aide in separate jobs held at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus. In addition to her doctorate degree, she holds a M.S. in ecological restoration from Ohio State, as well as a B.A. in Spanish and B.S. in biology from Xavier University. Emma and her husband Michael reside in Columbus with their two children, Eddie and Clare, and the family's three cats.
