The Academy Life, Columbus Academy’s student journalism program under the direction of advisor Pat Hogan, recently received a 2017 Gold Circle Award in the category of digital news from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
Approximately 20% of last year's submissions from 1,122 schools achieved a Gold standing, which recognizes superior work by student journalists usually as individuals but sometimes as an entire staff working with either print or online media.
Judges are experienced journalists and educators familiar with the context surrounding student journalism as produced in schools and colleges.
Gold Circle Awards were first given in 1984, following a long tradition of CSPA awards for individual achievement by student journalists.
