Columbus Academy’s annual Holiday Luncheon culminated in the 2019 Distinguished Alumnus presentation to Steve Wittmann ’67 and recognition of Alumni Service Award recipient Sue Bauman. Both of this year’s honorees served the school admirably for many years and were introduced by their respective sons, Sam Wittmann ’15 and Jeff Bauman ’84. Almost 200 alumni, current teachers, former faculty and guests enjoyed the festivities, which included a state-of-the-school update from Head of School Melissa Soderberg.
The first award is designed to recognize alumni who have brought positive recognition to the school, as well as to themselves, through service to and involvement with Columbus Academy and the community. Following the introduction by his son and his eloquent acceptance speech, Wittmann accepted the school's highest honor from Alumni Board President Craig Tann '92.
Bauman retired in 1997 after 36 years of teaching, including 22 years of service at Academy as a lower and middle school faculty member. She also coached the school’s JV boys golf team.
