Columbus Academy will host the inaugural Math Educators Convergence on its campus in Gahanna from August 5-7, 2019.
This event is a national conference aimed at the support and cultivation of collaboration among independent, private and public school mathematics educators and administrators working with grades 6-12. The theme for this first year revolves around the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) book Catalyzing Change in High School Mathematics with keynote speakers and breakout sessions related to it.
Keynote speakers will be Robert Q. Berry III, president of NCTM and professor at The University of Virginia, and Fawn Nguyen, middle school mathematics teacher and active math blogger from Southern California.
Through the sharing of how mathematics is done by students and teachers alike, Columbus Academy hopes to help inspire educators to consider new ways to provide equity and access to help empower students across several grade levels.
