Our swimming and diving program completed a banner season at the OHSAA state meet last weekend. With 125 points, the Academy boys placed third overall in Division II rankings. The 200 freestyle relay squad of Andy L., William D., Mircea B. and William H. claimed the school’s first swimming state title since 2018 by winning with a time of 1:27.01, which was half a second better than second-place University School. The same four also were state runners-up in the 200 medley relay. In addition to swimming the anchor leg in both relays, William H. capped his senior season by reaching the state podium in both the 100 free (2nd place) and 100 breaststroke (4th). As a junior, Andy also placed 9th in the 50 free and 11th in the 100 free while freshman William D. finished 13th in the 100 breast.
Our girls were eighth overall with 89 points, led by a 5th-place result in the 400 free relay and 6th-place finish in the 200 medley relay (both squads included Lillian B., Maddie E., Ella L. and Olivia L.). Lillian, a junior, earned another spot on the state podium by placing 8th in the 200 individual medley in addition to finishing 14th in the 100 butterfly. Fellow junior Olivia also swam in four events, placing 10th in the 50 free and 12th in the 100 free. And in her final high school meet, senior Ella was 15th in the 500 free in addition to her two relay appearances. Earlier in the week, district champion Elle V. placed 10th in the Division II diving finals with a score of 347.10.
