Biography

Grant Stegner began teaching eighth grade language arts in the middle school at Columbus Academy at the start of the 2023-24 school year. He is also the head coach of our varsity girls soccer team. Grant came to Academy with 15 years of teaching experience, most recently holding the role of assistant school leader and interim school leader at KIPP Columbus Middle School. He also previously taught eighth grade language arts and history at KIPP while serving as INSPIRE fellow advisor. In addition, Grant taught seventh grade reading and was team leader at KIPP STAR College Preparatory Charter School, this after time spent as an eighth grade language arts and history teacher at Luisa Dessus Cruz Middle School. Grant was awarded the Sontag Prize Grant in Urban Education in 2014 and was previously selected for teacher leader cohort of KIPP School Leadership Program. He obtained a B.A. in political science with an English minor from Macalester College and M.A. in secondary English education from Lehman College, CUNY. Grant and his wife Elizabeth, who teaches English in our upper school, have two children Thea '33 and Ivy.
