Amanda Dennison began serving as a learning specialist in our Lower School at Columbus Academy at the start of the 2024-25 school year. She came to Academy after spending eight years at The Maddux School in Rockville, Maryland, where she was a curriculum and instruction coordinator and taught kindergarten during her time on campus. Amanda also previously taught at the Hong Kong International School with a mix of pre-kindergarten through second grade classes, this after teaching kindergarten at Creekside Elementary School in Durham, North Carolina. She holds a B.A. in elementary education with a focus in language arts and literacy from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as a M.A. in education with a double focus in literacy and special education from Michigan State University. She also obtained a certificate in school management and leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education and is trained in the Orton-Gillingham method. Amanda and her husband Nate, who is also an educator, have a son, Finley, and daughter, Elise, and the family has a mini-goldendoodle named Daisy.
