Alison Hammond began teaching fifth grade at Columbus Academy at the start of the 2024-25 school year. She is also the junior varsity field hockey coach. Alison came to Academy after spending seven years at Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, where she was a fifth grade lead teacher, taught middle school English and coached field hockey and softball. She also gained four years of experience as a founding teacher for grades 2-3 at UP Academy Dorchester in Boston, this after teaching in special education and English to tenth-graders at Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School in Baltimore. There she was also a Teach for America Corps member. Alison holds a B.A. in English literature from Haverford College and M.A. in leadership in teaching from Notre Dame of Maryland University. Her experience also includes work in DEI and serving as a SEED facilitator. Alison and her husband, Paul – who previously taught PE and coached at Germantown Friends School – and have three children: Penny '38, Marley '39 and two-year-old Clementine.
